The last time Al Gore’s name came up this much during a presidential race, it was in the innocent years before we all learned what a hanging chad is. Republican frontrunner Rick Perry is under constant assault for his support of Gore’s 1988 campaign — back when Perry was a Democrat — and has pushed back on it by arguing that he wasn’t as involved as advertised in the campaign.

Today, Gore has weighed in.

From USA Today:

“I remember Rick Perry from that campaign. He was one of a number of Democratic legislators who endorsed my candidacy in 1988 and I was happy to have his support,” Gore told USA TODAY. “I don’t know what has happened to him since then.”

Not exactly earth-shattering stuff, but yet another reminder that before he was Mr. Galileo on climate change, Perry was a booster for global warming’s most vocal critic.
