A Sleeper Issue?

There seems to be a clear tightening of the presidential race. Whether it will reverse itself or not in a week — as it has numerous times — we don’t know. But I wonder if those phony welfare ads Romney is running in the swing states might not be having a bigger effect than we realize. Read More

The Ultimate ReWrite

From WaPo

Now that Mitt Romney has amassed a couple hundred million dollars, it’s largely up to an eclectic crew of self-described “Mad Men” to make good use of it.

A colorful team of advertising gurus — including a one-time “Wheel of Fortune” contestant, a guy nicknamed for a “Super Mario” character and a burly Texan who came up with the “Beef, it’s what’s for dinner” slogan — have converged on the campaign’s drab headquarters here to dream up the ads they hope will propel Romney to the White House.

Bachmann?

Having watched these folks for years, I can tell you that Todd Akin, Steve King, Michele Bachmann and a handful of others are always the first to hop off when the bus from Crazy Town pulls up at the terminal. Hey, Thanks!

Yesterday I asked our most devoted readers to let us know when and how you started reading TPM. We’ve gotten dozens, possibly hundreds, of responses now. So first things first: thanks! I’m still making my way through them. They’re great to read. But more than that, very helpful in helping us hear learn more about you and your take on the site’s evolution over time.

If you haven’t written in and you’re a longtime reader, please take a moment to. More on our coming plans for our core readers after the jump. Read More

Thanks and Signing Off

Thanks again to Josh and the TPM community for the chance to blog about my new book, The Voting Wars. I’ve posted on the fake epidemic of voter fraud, the problem of having partisan and local officials running our national elections, and what we might do to make things better or at least avoid another Bush v. Gore and Florida-style meltdown.
You can follow 2012 election law developments at my usual home, the Election Law Blog. Thanks and take care!
