We’re a legitimate operation. So I keep to a rule that we don’t do posts making fun of people’s names. But one of the two candidates in today’s GOP primary for Alabama State Treasurer is a guy named Young Boozer. So we’re making a one-time exception.
Special bonus: he’s running against George Wallace’s son.
I’m not sure which is more surprising: that Dick Morris endorsed Carly Fiorina or that Carly Fiorina sent out an email telling people about it.
In response to this piece, TPM Reader NG writes in …
Hey Josh, i’ve been reading and enjoying your site for years and never written in til now… but by bizarre circumstance, Young Boozer is actually an old family friend. and he is a *great* guy. i’m a flaming leftist but i’d vote for him in a heartbeat (which, of course, makes me suspect that he’s far too sane to win a republican primary in alabama).
Anyways, the guy is more than just a ridiculous name!
Keep up the brilliant work at tpm!
More than a name, sure. But that’s quite a name!
We’ve got primaries tonight in New Mexico, Alabama and Mississippi. Follow the live results here. Or watch the top races down below the feature on the right.
I hadn’t noticed that there’s a little meter on Movable Type that says the number of posts you’ve written. This is the 20,246th post I’ve written on TPM.
Wow, not a good cycle to switch parties. Didn’t work out for Arlen Specter. And it’s not looking good for Parker Griffith, the right-leaning Alabama Dem who switched parties to the GOP. With a little over 50% of the vote in, Griffith has 33% of the vote to 51% for Mo Brooks.
So it’s not looking too good.
Now, remember, Alabama’s a run-off state. So Brooks has to get over 50% to end it tonight. But it looks like he loses tonight or loses the run-off. A GOP source tells our Eric Kleefeld: “Rural counties will come in strong for Parker…may be enough to keep Mo under 50…but either way, Mo is your GOP nominee, whether it’s tonight or in 6 weeks.”
Not a good night for Artur Davis. He turned his back on a lot of his own positions to run for governor and didn’t even make it through the primary.
Here’s more.
We only met Young Boozer this afternoon. And now he’s beaten George Wallace Jr. by 63% to 37% with 61% of precincts reporting in the GOP primary for Alabama state Treasurer.
