As noted earlier, what was reported this morning in the Journal as a major shift in policy on Social Security by AARP actually isn’t one. What has Social Security advocates steamed is the decision to preemptively give the green light to benefit cuts in the hopes that will encourage anti-tax Republicans to agree to tax increases as part of an overall bargain.
