We’ve got more from Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL), the avatar of post-law Washington DC, where they let you do it if you’re a Republican.
Remember all the way back in February DC police were called to Mills’ apartment over an alleged assault of a woman who was not his wife. (Mills’ wife lives back in his home district. She’s a kind of Schrodinger’s Wife, but we’ll get back to that.) Subsequent news confirmed that the woman was Mills’ DC girlfriend, and when we last checked in on this story a couple weeks ago she still appeared to be his girlfriend, notwithstanding the alleged assault. (She soon recanted her accusation after the incident.) DC law being under the management of Jan. 6 attorney Ed Martin at the time meant Mills skated on that incident, though there was some question of whether the DC police might also have botched the initial arrest and investigation in ways that might have made prosecution difficult even if Republicans were still required to follow the law in DC.
Then three weeks ago we learned that Mills was in the process of being evicted from his $21,000-a-month DC apartment, which he appeared to stop paying rent on right after the alleged assault.
Now we learn that another girlfriend — seemingly the Florida Girlfriend, as opposed to the DC Girlfriend and the district-based wife — says that Mills has been harassing her, threatening any future love interests of hers and — rather notably — threatening to release their sex tapes.
There’s a lot going on here so let me clarify “their.” Rep. Mills is threatening to release the sex tapes of himself and the woman we’ll identify here as Florida Girlfriend, whose name is Lindsey Langston, herself a Florida state GOP committee member as well as the 2024 winner of the Miss United States beauty pageant.
On July 14, she made a complaint against Mills with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department and also, according to her lawyer Anthony Sabatini, filed a restraining order against him.
A few additional details.
According to Langston, she and Mills were in a relationship from November 2021 until February 2025. She says she ended their relationship when news of the alleged assault broke. That would mean that Langston, the woman who was the victim of the alleged assault, and Mills’ wife were all in relationships with Mills at the same time.
Langston says that Mills told her that he and his wife were separated. He apparently didn’t tell her he had another girlfriend in DC. When I was writing about this a couple weeks ago, I was told by someone in DC GOP world that Mills is separated from his wife. But it was unclear to me whether the two are actually separated (in the sense of a separation Mills’ wife was aware of) or whether this is what Mills says on the DC and Central Florida dating scenes to play the field. The reports on the Langston chapter of this saga give the impression that Langston thinks Mills told her something that wasn’t true.
In any case, one other detail.
Obviously Cory Mills is gloriously or ingloriously full of shit. But he notes that Sabatini, Langston’s lawyer, is the guy he beat in the GOP primary in 2022 before winning his current congressional seat. Sabatini is also a former state representative and current member of the Lake County Commission. Along with the latest police report, Sabatini put out a statement saying, “I believe it’s time for Mills to step down or be expelled” from the House, and he’s made clear quite recently that he still wants to run for the U.S. House in the future.
I’m pretty skeptical that Langston would come forward essentially announcing that there’s a horde of sex tapes of her and Mills having sex just as some political hit on Mills, as Mills is claiming. Not that there’s anything wrong with sex tapes. Consenting adults are perfectly entitled to fly whatever freak flag they have handy in the privacy of their erotic worlds. And “revenge porn” is literally a crime in in many or most jurisdictions today. Still, given how our society works and given that Mills is a notorious sleazebag and (allegedly) violent liar, I very much doubt Langston would come forward with this claim if it weren’t broadly true. She apparently also provided the sheriff’s office with copies of texts to substantiate the threats. My point is simply that everyone here seems to be a player in Central Florida GOP politics. So make of that what you will.
