Has Krohn dumped Jesus as well as Bill Bennett?

Ok, this is a bit tongue in cheek. But I’m curious. We now all know the story of young Jonathan Krohn (YJK), the one time micro-pundit who dazzled conservatives in 2009 and has now recanted into some sort of semi-reticent, bemused liberalism. In Benjy Sarlin’s interview with Krohn he jokingly refers to himself as a “a white Jewish nerd.”

But back in 2009, Krohn said that his mother had converted from Judaism to Christianity years before his birth. Jonathan himself was educated as Christian bible schools and told the Times that “since I’m a Jewish Christian, I don’t do a bar mitzvah.”

Actually the paragraph is interesting and sort of suggests his extended family may be Jewish but not him and his mother …

Last spring, as the presidential campaign was in full roar, Jonathan decided the term conservatism was so misused that he needed to write a book explaining it. He received a computer from his maternal grandfather for his 13th birthday. “In the Jewish culture in which my mom was raised, 13 is a big deal,” he said. “But since I’m a Jewish Christian, I don’t do a bar mitzvah.” (Decades ago, his mother became a Baptist.)

Now, obviously one can be a Christian and still recognize a Jewish heritage or frankly you can mean anything or nothing by it. But this did make me wonder whether Krohn didn’t just drop conservatism but possibly also the whole conservative-evangelical package set.
