Santorum Not Ready To Get ‘In The Mix’ Yet For 2012

Fmr. Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA)

Rick Santorum said this week that he hasn’t yet decided about a run for president in 2012, pointing out that “this race hasn’t even begun to take shape. That’s why it’s again, an opportunity to sort of get a sense as to how open people are to other candidates.”

In an interview with IowaPolitics.com on Tuesday, Santorum said that “I don’t see anybody trying to push down the starting gate at this point and I think there’s a lot of reasons for that. Right now, it’s an opportunity for me to get around, talk to folks, learn, listen and get feedback as to whether they think this is a good idea or not. Really test the waters.”

“I’ve said from the very beginning, I’d like to have my voice in the mix,” Santorum said. “As you’ve seen in the last few days, I’ve got a voice that has things to say.”

He continued:

This race hasn’t even begun to take shape. That’s why it’s again, an opportunity to sort of get a sense as to how open people are to other candidates. You have the big three or four and I don’t sense any real passion out there, so I think that’s a very encouraging thing for me, as someone who is not as well known and sort of sitting toward the bottom of the pack.
