Rick Santorum today denied that he said Sarah Palin was skipping CPAC for financial reasons, calling a Politico story about the comments “garbage.”Andy Barr of Politico first reported yesterday that Santorum told S.E. Cupp, who has a radio show on Glenn Beck’s website, that Palin is skipping CPAC because she has “other business opportunities.”

“I have a feeling she has some demands on her time, and a lot of them have financial benefit attached to them,” he said. “So I’m sure that she’s doing what’s best for her and her family.”

He added that Palin has “other responsibilities” that he doesn’t, like being “the mother to all these kids.”

Here’s the video, in which Santorum says exactly what Politico quoted him as saying:

In a tweet today, Santorum walked it back, with a link to the Politico article: “This article is garbage. All I said was- she is VERY busy, PERIOD. Reporter trying to create something out of nothing.”
