After making several visits to majority black Midwestern communities where he promised to “listen” to voters, Trump was back to telling black Americans about their own life experiences at a Tuesday rally in North Carolina. The real estate mogul said that black communities were in their worst shape “ever, ever, ever.” As TPM’s Allegra Kirkland points out, Trump’s claim that this approach was working and his poll numbers were “going, like, high” is not backed up by actual poll data. The latest Washington Post-ABC News polling found that Trump has only 5 percent support among black voters.
Agree or Disagree?
Josh Marshall: “I’m not saying that Clinton is back in a comfortable lead. I’m not saying we know she’ll win. I’m not saying that we know that the virtual tie Trump moved into last week has subsided. I’m making a much narrower point. We don’t have enough data yet to know. But the limited data we do have both nationally and in key states suggests Clinton is reopening the modest lead she had prior to her weekend of horribles.”

From a TPM Prime member: “I’m accustomed to being proud to call myself an American, but this pride is increasingly difficult to sustain, as its essence is redefined by hoards of my fellow Americans as ‘hate foreigners.’ I’m disgusted with people who see someone different, and see a threat to their way of life, to their identity, to their own values. What values can a person hold in common with me, who would hate different cultures, different ways of speaking, so deeply? It’s something I see all around me yet cannot fathom.”
