From The Reporter’s Notebook
Some supporters of ISIS and other jihadi groups are rallying around the idea of a Donald Trump presidency and cheering for the presumptive GOP nominee on pro-jihadi online message boards, TPM’s Tierney Sneed and Lauren Fox reported. One commenter even equated Trump to the recent Brexit vote, according to terrorism analyst Laith Alkhouri. “He made a comment: ‘The U.S.’s marginalization, just as the U.K.’s, is coming and its hero will be the moron Republican nominee Trump,’” Alkhouri told TPM.
Agree or Disagree?
Josh Marshall: “The whole blow up about Trump’s dismal May FEC report was only a little more than a week ago. It terrified Republicans because it showed that Trump’s campaign was essentially broke going into the convention. It must also have been humiliating to Trump personally. For both reasons, since then, Trump’s been on a storm. He’s spamming people all over the world, probably hitting up old AOL accounts whose owners died in the 90s. He claimed to forgive the campaign debt, a source of major anxiety to big Republican donors, both because they didn’t want to contribute money he’d use to pay himself back but also because they were spooked by what looked like a sign he didn’t have nearly enough money to seriously contribute to his campaign, let alone self-fund.”
Say What?!
“How many people even know what the word means?”
– Trump brushed off charges that he’s a xenophobe by questioning whether voters even understand the term.
BUZZING: Today in the Hive
From a TPM Prime member: “If you’re running a campaign on the idea that DC pols are idiots who have no clue how to win and you’re the awesome white knight riding in to save the day with your yuge business savvy, then you’re not going to act like a “normal” politician or run a “normal” campaign. That makes sense. It’s the second part that makes no sense, which is the businessman part of it. Trump’s found himself in the grift of a lifetime — he asks for money, and rubes give him money. He doesn’t have to provide any service or product. They just donate money to his campaign, just for the asking. But he does hafta ask!!! From a business standpoint, he has decades of experience fleecing people of their money, so how can he possibly be so lazy on that very aspect of the campaign — getting the money from people?! That’s what’s so bizarre.”
Related: There is no evidence that Trump actually forgave over $45 million in loans to his campaign, as he previously claimed.
