Carlos Beruff, a Republican running to represent Florida in the U.S. Senate, is unapologetic after he called President Obama an “animal” this weekend, TPM’s Sara Jerde reported. Some Florida media outlets have questioned whether he is the state’s version of presumptive nominee Donald Trump after he said he didn’t think it was safe to allow “anybody” from the Middle East to the U.S. He later clarified that “Israel” was an exception.
Agree or Disagree?
Josh Marshall: “Once the primary contests end, both candidates get a bump when their parties start to consolidate around them. But only one primary cycle is over. Hillary supporters and math supporters may say, well, c’mon, it’s definitely over. The math is the math. But that’s not really the standard. It’s really over when all the candidates agree that it’s over. The Sanders campaign does not see it as over and neither do their supporters. That shows up even in general election polls and in Clinton’s favorability numbers.”
BUZZING: Today in the Hive
From a TPM Prime member: “I hate to poke a stick here at the Hive, but I read about the fight that broke out last night in Nevada over delegates. Everyone condemned violence at Trump’s rallies. Here, it was the furtherance of dividing delegates in Nevada. Hardly a venue you would expect violence. While I don’t know all the facts, but from what I have read, Bernie supporters were complaining and fomenting all day. I will condemn the violence in Nevada the same as I condemned it at Trump rallies. As Democrats, we believe in calling out the bad actors even if they are within our party. I guess my question is “Does anybody think Bernie has any control over his followers?” If not, does he care? I’m not saying Bernie encouraged the violence in Nevada, but I haven’t seen any denouncement either. Has a faction of Bernie supporters gone rogue and is Bernie deliberately staying mute?”
