From The Reporter’s Notebook
The Oklahoma man suspected of murdering his Lebanese next-door neighbor weeks after being released from jail for a violent hit-and-run on the victim’s mother has a long history of antagonizing the family with ethnic slurs and frivolous police complaints. As TPM’s Allegra Kirkland reported, a Tulsa judge decided to release Vernon Majors on a reduced bond despite his violent history against the Jabara family. The judge even removed the requirement that he wear an ankle monitor. This decision was particularly striking given that Majors was convicted of multiple felonies in California, including making threats and weapons charges.
Agree or Disagree?
Josh Marshall: “If Manafort hadn’t become a household name in the US political world once again because of his role running Trump’s campaign it likely never would have mattered. But now he has. Now you have pushed it right up in everyone’s face the fact that Manafort was doing exactly what the FARA law requires you to file for. And he didn’t file. It’s just really clear cut. It’s clear cut enough that others in the mix wondered years ago what he was thinking. I suspect it will simply be too clear cut, too out in the open for everyone to see for the DOJ to ignore. That alone is a serious violation of criminal law that can lead to up to five years in prison.”
Say What?!
“Her dysphasia, the fact that she’s fallen, she has had a concussion…”
– Trump spokeswoman Katrina Pierson aired a laundry list of conservative fringe conspiracy theories about Clinton’s health.
BUZZING: Today in the Hive
From a TPM Prime member: “I think there’s a decent chance that even if Texas doesn’t go Democratic this election, that the havoc Trump has wrought on the Republican party will continue to have fall-out for elections to come. I think that Texas is going to be very much like Vermont or Virginia, a Red Red Red state that all of a sudden is Blue Blue Blue. Texas will get close enough that Democratic voters start feeling like their votes really matter, serious organizing will happen, and I think the Latino population will awaken and vote in high numbers. I know that in the past Latinos have voted more Republican in Texas, but I think Donald Trump will have seriously damaged that brand, even in Texas.”
