Donald Trump on Sunday blasted the Virginia Republican Party for a new requirement that residents voting in the Republican primary must sign a statement declaring that they are Republicans. TPM’s Caitlin MacNeal points out that the presidential candidate is likely concerned that the pledge could deter any independent voters who currently support him from heading to the polls.

Josh Marshall: In times of heightened Islamophobia, attacks against Sikhs, who are obviously not Muslims, increase. This confirms our assumptions about “the overlap between bigotry, propensity to violence and stupidity and ignorance.”

From a TPM Prime member: “The Big Short,” a film adaptation of Michael Lewis’ book about the build-up of the housing and credit bubble during the 2000s, left me “feeling some despair. It seems to me that this is going to happen again, that very little has changed, and I don’t see a way to change it in this political climate. As the film says at the end, these instruments are back in motion.”
