From The Reporter’s Notebook
Washington, D.C. is still grappling with how quickly Justice Antonin Scalia’s death was politicized. TPM’s Lauren Fox spoke with Doug Pennington, a spokesman for the Constitutional Accountability Center, about the liberal group’s initial reaction to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s insistence that President Obama shouldn’t be able to fill the vacant SCOTUS seat. “There was genuine outrage,” Pennington said. “You believe in the Constitution, you believe in its history, but you don’t believe in Article 2?“
BUZZING: Today in the Hive
From a TPM Prime member: “The flow of immigrants into this country is much lower now, and the idea that many of the American workers want to do the low paying hard work jobs that immigrants are doing is just bunk! Bernie is proposing a $15/per hour minimum wage whereas Trump has taken advantage (as this great businessman) to screw over the immigrants and lower wage American workers to advance his personal income and billionaire status. If one cannot see or make a distinction here, (which happens way to often in this county) the ignorant and apathetic will continue to prevail. (tea party influence referenced here). It will be a cold day in hell before Trump shares his money with and of the middle or lower class people because that is who he took it from.”
Related: Ben Carson said the minimum wage should “probably be higher.”
