The Colorado airwaves will get much calmer in the aftermath of the mass shooting at an Aurora movie theater Friday. Following the example set by both the Romney and Obama campaigns, super PACs supporting both candidates are pulling their TV ads from the western swing state.

Priorities USA, the super PAC supporting President Obama, told TPM it has asked TV affiliates to pull all of its ads in Colorado “for the time being.”

Steven Law, CEO of American Crossroads — the super PAC co-founded by Karl Rove — said in a statement that his group is pulling all of its online and television advertising in Colorado.

“In moments of tragedy like the Aurora shooting, we all stand together as Americans and are reminded of the precious gifts of life, family and community that we share,” Law said. “We pause to honor and pray for those whose lives have been tragically cut short, as well as those who must bear this terrible loss.”

The super PACs have been responsible for millions of dollars in political advertising in Colorado so far, and are expected to pour in more resources as the election nears.
