Correct The Record, a group dedicated to defending Hillary Clinton ahead of a potential 2016 presidential bid, pounced on Wednesday’s revelations that an aide to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) communicated with officials involved in the order to close lanes on the George Washington Bridge last September.
Some Democrats have alleged the lane closures, which led to days of gridlock in Fort Lee, N.J., were ordered as retaliation against a local mayor who did not endorse Christie’s re-election bid.
“Christie said previously he’d been briefed by his staff and been told ‘everything we know’ about the scandal. Chris Christie assured the media and public the scandal is ‘not a big deal,’ but now we know otherwise,” Correct the Record Communications Director Adrienne Elrod said in a statement. “So many questions remain unanswered. Was there a cover-up? Was Christie lying then or lying now? It is time for Gov. Christie to turn over emails and phone records and come clean on what really happened. (sic)”
Correct the Record is affiliated with the Democratic super PAC American Bridge and is dedicated to defending Clinton from media attacks. Christie is widely seen a potential 2016 rival for Clinton.
