A video released Wednesday by the New Jersey Democratic State Committee featured out-of-context quotes from Republican Senate candidate Steve Lonegan being read by Garden State residents.
The quotes highlighted Lonegan’s opposition to political correctness and various social programs.
Recent polls have shown Lonegan gaining on his Democratic opponent, Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker, though the most recent showed Booker still had a double-digit lead.
Lonegan’s senior campaign staffer Rick Shaftan responded to the video on Twitter.
“C’mon guys, you can do better than this weak stuff,” Shaftan wrote.
