Democratic Party officials said First Lady Michelle Obama canceled fundraising appearances in California this weekend due to the government shutdown, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Tuesday. 

The first lady was scheduled to travel to Los Angeles and the Bay area on Saturday and Sunday for three fundraisers to benefit the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, according to the newspaper.
