Jon Stewart breathed a sigh of relief Monday that the United States had seemingly found a diplomatic alternative to military intervention in Syria after reaching an agreement with Russia on the Assad regime’s chemical weapons.
“So, we get to take Assad’s chemical weapons, we don’t have to kill anyone, and we did it all just by the talky-talk,” Stewart observed.
But for Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and others, the agreement amounted to a “debacle.”
“What am I missing? We might contain a dictator’s chemical weapons stockpile without having to kill innocent civilians in the process or invading a country,” Stewart said.
The “Daily Show” host also took aim at neoconservatives like John Bolton, who opposed the resolution to authorize the use of force in Syria but found reason to lament the deal with the Russians.
