Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) may not wish to be a Canadian citizen, but he’ll likely carry the honor for some time longer.
The Lone Star State conservative, who announced Monday that he plans to renounce his dual Canadian citizenship, must “win security clearance from Canada’s spy agency, fill in a four-page form and then wait up to eight months to sever his ties to America’s northern neighbor,” Reuters reported Tuesday.
Cruz released his birth certificate Sunday confirming that the tea party favorite was born Dec. 22, 1970 in Calgary, Alberta, but because he was born to an American mother he also instantly became an American citizen.
