The Washington Post’s Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Eugene Robinson offered his reaction Tuesday to the sale of the paper to Amazon.com Jeff Bezos, saying that the newsroom is still consumed by surprise over the deal.

“Well, the general feeling is still shock,” Robinson said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

He then joked, “And since we’re newspaper people, we will eventually get to the grousing part of it.”

Robinson also made a point to pay tribute to Don Graham, the chairman and CEO of the Post.

“Don is, I think, has never gotten the credit he is due as a publisher and as a person,” Robinson said. “It’s been a wonderful experience working for him. And I think those of us who will be, you know, shifting over with the new company will always consider him a friend.”

Ezra Klein, the Post’s popular liberal blogger, also expressed “shock” at the deal, but said he’s “hopeful.” The newspaper gave front page billing to the sale on Tuesday.
