Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) called for détente Wednesday in his ongoing feud with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R).
“I didn’t pick this recent fight with the governor down in New Jersey,” Paul said on the radio program “New Hampshire Today,” as quoted by Real Clear Politics. “But I think the party does better if we have less infighting, so I would suggest if he wants to ratchet it down, I’m more than happy to.”
Christie appeared to take a thinly veiled shot at Paul last week when he criticized the “strain of libertarianism” permeating American foreign policy debates, invoking the victims of 9/11 in making his case. Paul swiftly fired back by slamming Christie for demanding federal disaster relief for Hurricane Sandy and said it was “kind of sad and cheap” to exploit 9/11 victims.
After Christie called out Paul’s home state of Kentucky for the amount of public funding it receives, the senator seemed to needle the popular governor for his weight during an interview with CNN.
“This is the king of bacon talking about bacon,” Paul said.
