During a live radio interview on Tuesday, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) refused to discuss his contact with the FBI, which is investigating his relationship with a Virginia businessman and donor.
“I really don’t think at this point that I have much more that I can say,” McDonnell said, after being asked when his last contact with federal investigators came.
“I’ve spent 45 minutes giving you the very best and most candid answers that I can,” McDonnell also said. “I just can’t comment on investigations.”
McDonnell’s relationship with the donor, Jonnie Williams, is reportedly the subject of both state and federal probes. The governor and his family recently returned over $120,000 in loans to Williams, and McDonnell said Tuesday he plans to return thousands of dollars worth of gifts as well.
