Tina Brown, editor-in-chief of The Daily Beast and Newsweek, praised Kate Middleton on Tuesday for giving birth to a boy, declaring that “once again” the Duchess of Cambridge did “the perfect thing.”
A 2011 change to royal succession ensured that the first born child of Prince William and his wife, regardless of gender, will eventually ascend to the throne, but Brown said that tradition still reigns supreme.
“As soon as William really kind of emerged into the public eye, you had this wholesome prince and his choice of Kate Middleton turns out to be absolutely impeccable. I mean, once again, she does the perfect thing,” Brown said during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “I mean, although there’s the constitutional change that we can now have a girl as the first born to be the monarch, nonetheless, she does the traditional thing, and she gives us a prince. She gives a king. I mean, let’s face it, the Queen will be thrilled. She and the Duke of Edinburgh, much as they would have said they would have been fine with a girl first born, they really did want a boy and they got one.”
Brown offered the same take on Twitter shortly after the birth:
#Kate can do no wrong! Now the royals can stop pretending they were fine with a girl 1st! http://t.co/0thIsxgPwy

And Brown wasn’t alone. After the birth was announced Monday, CNN contributor Victoria Arbiter heaped similar praise on Middleton.
“My first thought, I have to say, this is how brilliant a royal Kate is,” Arbiter said. “There are women throughout British royal family history that have panicked over not being able to deliver a boy, and here we are, Kate did it first time.”
