Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID) said Democrats, specifically New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, and not Republicans, are to blame for the current troubles plaguing immigration reform in Congress.
“If Chuck Schumer is not going to pass anything unless he gets 100 percent of what he wants, then he’s the one who’s killing immigration reform,” Labrador said on MSNBC’s NOW with Alex Wagner. “He’s the one who is saying 80% is not enough.”
Labrador had been deeply involved in the bipartisan negotiations to develop a comprehensive reform bill on the House side, before withdrawing from the talks last month.
“The Republican Party is actually working on immigration reform, it’s working on legalization legislation, it’s working on ways to deal with the young kids that are here in the United States that came here through no fault of their own,” he said. “If that is not good enough for Chuck Schumer and the Democratic Party, then that means that they really don’t want a solution, that all they want is the rhetoric to talk about immigration reform.”
