Right-wing pundit Glenn Beck raised doubts Monday about the recent hospitalization of Teresa Heinz Kerry after the State Department was caught lying about Secretary of State John Kerry’s time aboard a yacht the same day a coup was unfolding in Egypt.
Heinz Kerry, the wife of the secretary of state and the heir to the Heinz ketchup fortune, was flown to a hospital Sunday after reportedly showing symptoms of a seizure. Her condition was upgraded from “critical” to “fair” on Monday. On Friday, photographic evidence forced the State Department to reverse its previous denial and admit that Kerry was on a boat in Nantucket the day that Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi was ousted. The sequence all seemed very fishy to Beck.
“So he’s definitely not on his boat until the pictures actually show up. And then, ‘Okay, he was on his boat,'” Beck said on his radio program. “And you expect me to believe that Mrs. Ketchup is in critical condition? I mean, no offense, maybe she is.”
The suggestion immediately brought to mind a right-wing conspiracy theory that surfaced earlier this year regarding Hillary Clinton’s hospitalization for a blood clot, which many conservatives contended was a ploy for the former secretary of state to eschew congressional hearings on the deadly attack in Benghazi, Libya. In fact, Beck himself noted the parallels.
“What happened in Benghazi? She’s in the hospital — Hillary Clinton goes to the hospital…this is the same State Department,” Beck said.
