Democratic Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes announced Monday that she is running for the U.S. Senate in 2014, making her the first big-name challenger against Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, according to the Washington Post.
Grimes, 34, has been in the secretary of state post since 2012.
She is entering the Kentucky Senate race as the underdog against McConnell, who is starting with a huge financial and name-recognition advantage.
