Russia Would Consider Granting Asylum To Snowden

A spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that the country would consider an asylum request for Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old who served as the source of the recent National Security Agency leaks.

“We will act upon a fait accompli,” Russian presidential press secretary Dmitri Peskov told the Russian newspaper Kommersant, according to the Washington Post. “If the request is filed, it will be considered. There can be no subjunctive mood in such cases.”

Snowden is believed to be currently hiding out in Hong Kong. A lawmaker in Iceland said Monday that she’s ready to help Snowden seek asylum in her country.
