House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-KY) claimed Monday that the Internal Revenue Service was following an “enemies list” that came directly from the White House when the agency targeted conservative groups.
“Of course, the enemies list out of the White House that IRS was engaged in shutting down or trying to shut down the conservative political viewpoint across the country — an enemies list that rivals that of another president some time ago,” Rogers said on Fox News, as quoted by the Washington Post.
Rogers is hardly the only Republican who’s been desperate to pin the IRS scandal on the White House, despite the lack of evidence to support such a claim. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) insisted Sunday that the targeting stemmed from the agency’s headquarters in Washington. “We’re getting to proving it,” Issa said.
