With a sharply worded letter sent last week to Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker (D), Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) may have offered a preview of the Democratic primary in New Jersey’s open U.S. Senate race next year.

In the letter, Pallone said Booker was “shirking” his responsibilities and accused the city of Newark of “failing to fund its obligations to the Hyacinth AIDS Foundation,” Newark Star-Ledger reported. The letter, sent May 10, was obtained by the Star-Ledger. Booker officials said they haven’t received the letter but defended the funding of the organization.

Pallone said last month that he is giving serious consideration to a run for the seat being vacated by Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), while Booker announced his intention to run in December.
