Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT), who announced Tuesday that he will not seek re-election next year, told the Billings Gazette that the 2011 death of his mother prompted him to think about his career.
“I just don’t want to die with my boots on,” Baucus said. “I’m a Montanan. I’m coming home to Montana. It’s my home.”
The six-term Democrat had raised $5 million by the end of last month, which he said allowed him to keep his options open.
