The Department of Justice has investigated claims that Wall Street Journal employees in China bribed officials in exchange for information, the Journal reported Sunday, adding that the company found no evidence to back up the allegations. DOJ opened the investigation last year, the report said.
A spokeswoman for the company said in a statement, according to the New York Times: “After a thorough review of our operations in China conducted by outside lawyers and auditors, we have not found any evidence of impropriety at Dow Jones. Nor has anyone taken issue with our findings.”
The allegations against Journal employees in China claim that the bribes went beyond meals and drinks and included, as the Journal put it, “lavish entertainment and travel.”
