The brother of embattled defense secretary nominee Chuck Hagel told NBC News on Monday that, despite withering criticism from former Republican colleagues, the former senator from Nebraska has no intention of withdrawing.

“He’s not going to walk away from this,” Tom Hagel said. “The way he’s responding to this, he’s just going to fight harder.” Tom Hagel said he spoke to his brother on Sunday night.

Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI), chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said that the panel will hold a vote on Chuck Hagel’s nomination on Tuesday afternoon.
