Although a quarter of the public said they have no opinion, far more Americans approved of President Barack Obama’s second inaugural address than disapproved, according to the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll released Wednesday.
Fifty-one percent of Americans said they approved of Obama’s speech, while 24 percent said they disapproved and 25 percent said they have no opinion.
The speech, which earned plaudits from the left for its explicit appeal for progressive policies, was a big hit among Obama’s party and ideological peers. Eighty-two percent of Democrats and 76 percent of liberals approved of the address.
Republicans felt more negatively toward the speech, but many signaled indifference: only 19 percent said they approved compared with 48 percent who disapproved, but one-third said they have no opinion of the address.
