The state of Texas on Tuesday will execute 51-year-old Kimberly McCarthy by lethal injection, making her the first woman in more than two years to be executed in the United States, Reuters reported.

McCarthy was convicted for the 1997 murder of her 71-year-old neighbor. The execution is scheduled to be carried out at 6 p.m. local time at the state prison in Huntsville, Texas. It will mark the first time a woman will be put to death in the U.S. since September of 2010.
