New York state governor Andrew Cuomo on Friday issued an executive order mandating state agencies to increase the energy efficiency of their buildings by 20 percent within seven years, by 2020, as part of Cuomo’s “Build Smart NY” program, which also kicked-off with a new website on Friday.
The plan calls for the most inefficient larger state government buildings to receive new light fixtures, climate control systems and other energy-conserving features. So far, 155 energy efficient building projects are featured on an interactive map of the state on the Build Smart NY website.
The project will be centered at the New York Power Authority (NYPA), which will spend $450 million on the effort, according to a news release from the Governor’s website.
