On the heels of a recent arrest at an airport, a Democratic legislator in Illinois is expected to drop out of the race to replace troubled former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL), the Chicago Tribune reported on Friday.
State Sen. Donne Trotter is expected to formally end his bid for the Democratic nomination for the 2nd Congressional District seat, which Jackson vacated last month after spending several months on a medical leave of absence.
Trotter was arrested at O’Hare International Airport earlier this month after he attempted to board his flight with an unloaded gun and a loaded magazine. With Trotter out, the Democratic field in the special election now includes five candidates.
