John McAfee, the U.S. antivirus software pioneer who has been on the run from authorities in Belize who want to question him in the murder of his neighbor, published a new post on his blog Wednesday saying that previous posts made under the name “Harold M.” actually came from him. McAfee said he took the name Harold after his kindly jailhouse guard. As the post reads in part:
I arranged to surreptitiously access a tiny laptop. On the second day a guard caught me and just smiled. “Bien” he said.
Belize officials were reading my blog constantly so I could not post under my own name. Hence, my friend Harold let me use his name. Apparently it worked.
A couple of times I logged in as myself for a while just to confuse an already confused beaurocracy in Belize. I would like to thank Harold for lending me his name by the way.
McAfee was reportedly freed by a judge’s order on Tuesday and the Guatemalan government is also said to be in the process of arranging to deport him back to the United States.
