White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said on Tuesday that President Obama “has faith” in Gen. John Allen, the top military official linked to an investigation over the resignation of CIA Director David Petraeus, praising his service in Afghanistan, but that he “has not made decision on personel matters” yet.
“The president thinks very highly of Gen. Allen and the service to his country,” Carney said, noting that President Obama had not spoken directly to Allen.
Carney also added that Obama was “certainly surprised when he was informed about the situation regarding Gen. Petraeus on Thursday.”
