An estimated 7.5 million people lost power as superstorm Sandy slammed into the East Coast, reports the Washington Post.

On Monday night, some 250,000 people lost power below Midtown in Manhattan as Sandy hit New York.

According to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, almost 2 million in New York state are without power:
