The head of a group of international election observers told the Associated Press on Friday that its members would obey Texas law and avoid coming within 100 feet of a polling place on Election Day.

Ambassador Daan Everts of the Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe said tension with Texas officials in recent days had been the result of a misunderstanding. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott earlier this week had threatened to arrest the observers if they came too close to the polling places next month.
