Obama: Romney ‘Was For An Assault-Weapons Ban Before He Was Against it’

President Obama attacked Mitt Romney for changing his position on gun control, in an answer at the town hall debate.

“First of all, I think Gov. Romney was for an assault-weapons ban before he was against it,” said Obama. “And he said that the reason he changed his mind was, in part, because he was seeking the endorsement of the National Rifle Association. So that’s on the record.”

The phrase, “for it before he was against it,” obviously calls to mind the attacks on Democratic Sen. John Kerry in the 2004 presidential race, when he described how he had voted for a version of the funding for the Iraq War before he voted against the final version.
