President Obama leads Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney by 4 points in a new survey of Nevada from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling (PPP). Obama gets 51 percent to Romney’s 47, and the president’s approval rating is above water at 49 percent approve to 48 percent disapprove.

Independent voters sightly approve of the president’s job perforamnce while have a slight unfavorable view of Romney, although they trust the former governor more to handle the economy. But they break toward Obama 52 percent to Romney’s 45 percent, giving the president an edge even though he loses 16 percent of Democrats to the Republican candidate. Obama also gets 67 percent of Latino voters to Romney’s 32 percent.

“Barack Obama’s still the favorite in Nevada but the state’s looking a lot more competitive than it did 3 weeks ago,” said Dean Debnam, President of PPP in a statement. “The big question is whether Romney’s momentum will be enough to overcome the structural advantages Democrats have in the state.”

The PoillTracer Average of the presidential race in Nevada shows Obama with a 1.7 percent lead.
