A majority of Americans are aware of Paul Ryan’s budget plan, which turns Medicare into a voucher program, and of those aware of the plan, a majority opposes it, a new poll from the Pew Research Center finds. The results are a sign of trouble for Mitt Romney, who hoped to get out ahead on this issue and convince voters that it was Obama who had endangered Medicare.
Among adults, 72 percent had heard a lot or a little about Ryan’s Medicare plan, and of those, 49 percent oppose it while 34 percent are in favor. Those numbers are similar to where they were about a year ago.
Pew surveyed 1,005 adults between Aug. 16-20 with a margin of error is 3.6 percentage points.
