Insurgent candidate and former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz has a narrow lead over Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in the runoff election for the Republican Senate primary, in the new poll from Democratic-aligned Public Policy Polling.
Cruz has 49 percent support, compared with Dewhurst’s 44 percent support. The survey of 458 likely GOP runoff voters was conducted on July 10 and 11, and has a 4.5 percent margin of error.
The runoff will be held on Aug. 31. The PollTracker Average shows Cruz leading Dewhurst, 46 percent to 44 percent.
