Florida Sen. Marco Rubio praised Mitt Romney’s position on immigration, in particular his emphasis on encouraging more legal immigration. “I think he’s been the most compelling voice in favor of legal immigration that we’ve seen in quite sometime,” Rubio said on “Fox & Friends” Monday morning.
“I think he’s been very forward leaning and I really am happy with the way that Mitt Romney has been expressing himself on this issue and all the issues really but on this issue in particular,” Rubio said of Romney on immigration. Rubio pointed out a comment from Romney’s speech at the NALEO conference last Thursday. “He had a great line last week in his speech in Orlando where he said that he, ‘we need to make legal immigration more attractive than illegal immigration.’ I think that’s exactly on point.”
Rubio also commented on Arizona’s controversial immigration law SB 1070, which the Supreme Court is expected to rule on any day now. Rubio repeated his position that he is “uncomfortable” with the law but does believe it is constitutional.
