One small donation per man, one giant fund for mankind? That appears to be the new motto of would-be asteroid mining company Planetary Resources, which late Wednesday night posted a video of co-founder Peter Diamandis asking users if they would be interested in donating to help fund asteroid-tracking space telescopes, using the crowdfunding website Kickstarter.
In exchange, high-paying donors would get the reward of being able to point the telescopes toward selected regions of space or the Earth and snap high-res images. Diamandis said that Planetary Resources planned to launch the telescopes in the next 18 to 21 months. To be clear, the company hasn’t yet launched a Kickstarer page, only a video gauging interest in the idea, inviting Web users to comment on its webpage.
