Montana Republicans will no longer demand that the state maintain laws criminalizing homosexuality, dropping the issue from their platform after 15 years.
The state GOP had included the call for a ban on intimate same sex contact since the Montana Supreme Court struck down its existing restrictions in 1997, which was followed in 2003 by a federal Supreme Court ruling invalidating such laws across the country.
According to the Associated Press, no reason was given for the change by party officials other than that it was part of a broader effort to shortern the party’s platform.
