Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) are expected to speak at a New York event for Restore Our Future, the super PAC backing Mitt Romney, reports the Wall Street Journal.
Both senators are considered to be in the running to be Romney’s vice presidential pick. The Romney campaign contends that campaign officials and surrogates can help the group raise money. According to the Journal, the New York event is both a fundraiser and “a strategy and polling briefing.”
The Journal explains:
By law, the presumptive nominee’s campaign cannot coordinate with the super PAC. But those lines have become blurred during the election cycle. Early this year Romney aides notified campaign staff that Romney campaign officials and surrogates could help Restore Our Future raise money. The decision came on the heels of a similar move by President Barack Obama’s campaign.
