British Prime Minister David Cameron on Thursday denied that he agreed to any “overt deals” with Rupert Murdoch’s newspapers. At the UK’s Leveson Inquiry into phone hacking, Cameron called suggestions of a deal “specious” and “unjustified,” the New York Times reports.
At the hearing, a text message was raised that suggests Cameron was too cozy with former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks. The text, sent before Cameron addressed a Conservative Party conference, read:
